This past July, Mel and I made the journey to Memphis to photograph Devin and Colin’s wedding weekend. I had only talked to Devin on the phone, but already knew she was the sweetest. When we got to their rehearsal dinner, we were met with open arms and huge smiles and all the love of their family and friends. After listening to heartfelt speeches and meeting the important people in their lives, we entered the wedding day matching names to faces and feeling excited to spend our day with all of these amazing souls.
Devin and her girls wore the cutest floral pajamas as they got ready in the most gorgeous suite at The Peabody. They ate together, laughed together, and cried when Devin revealed herself wearing her stunning dress from Low’s Bridal. She was elegant and classic and so full of life.
After the girls piled into the party bus, we met them at 409 South Main for Devin and Colin’s first look. We rode the elevator to the reception space, where we met Boogie, their dog. Boogie saw Devin and came up for the sweetest cuddles before they both went over to Colin. It was a moment we couldn’t get enough of. Having your dog there for your first look is absolutely priceless.
Their ceremony at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church was warm and sincere. Colin’s brothers rang the church bells to start the service, while The Hardin House decorated the doors with personalized wreaths. After the service, Colin and Devin had a receiving line so they could say hello and thank you to every guest. I absolutely love the idea of receiving lines as a way to greet everyone who comes, so that you don’t miss anyone at your reception, and can save more time for cake and dancing!
Afterward, we headed back to 409 South Main for a few minutes alone with the new couple. They. Were. So. Happy! While taking portraits outside, a totally random guy came up with his dog and offered us rooftop access to his building. We couldn’t pass him up, and it was so worth it. Memphis is such a fun place to shoot. So many textures and colors and fantastic evening light.
At their reception, Devin’s dad brought out the stuffed animal she had loved growing up, letting Colin know that it was his turn to keep his little girl safe, just as her animal had done when she was younger. CUE ALL THE TEARS. It was so sweet and a complete surprise to Devin.
And guys. Memphis receptions are the BEST. Cue the most AMAZING band, the BEST bridal party, and the MOST excited guests. I live for an awesome dance party, and these two did not disappoint.
We said our goodbyes and left as true friends. These two mean so much to Mel and I. We loved being part of your day, Devin and Colin. Thanks for treating us like family, and CONGRATULATIONS!
